Introducing the ECB-2000MFG — a one-of-a-kind high-performance motorsports watch designed in a very special EDIFICE collaboration with Shuichi Shigeno, the artist behind two landmark motorsports-themed manga series, Initial D and MF GHOST.

Initial D features races through steep mountain passes. It ran from 1995 to 2013 in Young Magazine published by Kodansha Ltd., and is a fan favorite that has sold more than 56 million copies. MF GHOST, Shigeno’s street-based car racing manga, has appeared in the same magazine since 2017, with a television anime series set to premiere in 2023.

This dream collaboration captures the worlds of Initial D and MF GHOST, with references to both incorporated throughout the design of this winner of a timepiece. The red and black design is based on the Toyota GT86 driven by MF GHOST protagonist Kanata Rivington. The base of the dial and the underside of the leather band are stamped with the characters Gyaaa (the sound of tires screeching across the roadway) that cut across the pages of both Initial D and MF GHOST. The underside of the band also features “Fujiwara Tofu Shop (Private Use),” the familiar lettering on the side of the Toyota AE86 driven by Takumi Fujiwara, the protagonist in Initial D.

Presenting a dream collaboration between EDIFICE and two landmark works of motorsport-themed manga penned by Shuichi Shigeno. This new watch is based on the original ECB-2000, which was designed to convey the motorsports worldview. The all-new collaborative design captures the dynamic realism of the street-racing world depicted in the two manga series. The watch even pays homage to the two Toyota models that feature in the manga — the AE86 and the TOYOTA GT86, which share the nickname “Hachi-Roku” (Japanese for “Eight-Six”). A special must-have edition for fans of cars, racing, and — of course — these manga masterworks.

Initial D & MF GHOST

Works of manga and anime originally penned by Shuichi Shigeno. Initial D first appeared in 1995 as a manga series printed in Young Magazine from Kodansha Ltd. Running for 18 years, the work was published in 48 volumes, selling more than 56 million copies. It is still beloved by many fans as a legendary work about the world of street racing. MF GHOST first appeared in Weekly Young Magazine in 2017, as a sequel to the previous work, getting off to a new start with stories about street-based car racing battles set in the not-so-distant future. An anime adaptation for TV is set to premiere in 2023.

Unique case design with a motif inspired by formula car suspension. Just like the four-arm suspension used in race cars, with two arms above and two below, the lugs are configured in a four-arm arrangement. In a first for the EDIFICE line, carbon fibre-reinforced resin is used for the case. Leveraging the material’s characteristic combination of strength and lightness, the watch delivers the durability and fit to support even intensive use by racing mechanics.

Smartphone Link offers the functionality to provide support to racing teams. Beyond its precise timekeeping, the app makes it easy to configure various functions, including world time, and responds to the time management needs of teams that travel to races around the world with reliability and practicality. In addition to the watch’s 200-lap memory for the stopwatch timer, it allows data transfer to the app as well, offering a convenient way to manage racing data.

Generates ample power for smooth operation of various functions from sunlight or even light from fluorescent lamps. Optimization of the rechargeable battery capacity and a power-saving internal system design allow approximately seven months of operation from a full charge without solar charging.
