MR-G SHOUGEKI-MARU INSPIRED BY SAMURAI KABUTO
Reaching New Heights.
Taking inspiration from a KABUTO (helmet) worn by Japanese Samurai. MRG-B2000SH Shougeki-Maru is the latest addition to G-SHOCK Flagship line, specially created for the MR-G Series. It evokes the noble spirit and aesthetic sensibility of a samurai commander.
G-SHOCK has worked with traditional arts specialists to deliver this special piece that unites proud Japanese craftsmanship with advanced technology. Each bezel features the image of a dragon hand carved by a highly skilled metalsmith using the chasing technique to represent the helmet’s maedate (crest). The case and band is made from specially-produced metal dies, that simulate the rugged look of rusted steel with finishes of brown and blue aged IP for a time-worn appearance.
MRGB2000SH-5A
The new MRG-B2000SH is inspired by Shougeki-Maru, an original kabuto piece that was commissioned for MR-G. Kabuto was worn by Japanese samurai when heading into battle and are known for their samurai aesthetic and symbolizing the strong convictions of samurai. These qualities resonate with the MR-G pursuit of ultimate toughness and aesthetics.
Metal Bezel Carved with Ascending Dragon
The Shougeki-Maru’s bezel evokes a helmet’s crest. Highly skilled in the technique of chasing, metalsmith Masao Kobayashi has carved the image of a mythical dragon on each. With his hand carving, no two watches are exactly alike.
Forged Bezel and Band with Rusted Steel Texture
The Shougeki-Maru’s bezel and band impart its textural feel to it. Forged using a sand die by Masanao Kikuchi, they reproduce the rugged look of rusted steel. A highly-skilled technique using a sand die, with brushes and misting tools, is required to bring out the unique textured finish in the metal’s surface.
Blue-Aged IP
Titanium treated with a deep-hardening process is finished with layers of both brown and blue IP. Removal of the blue IP from the convex surface produces the watch’s unique look, with its rusted steel texture and prominent ascending-dragon image. The coloration of the watch also creates the look of the navy blue ”KON ITO ODOSHI” * used in Japanese helmets and armor.

Recrystallised Titanium Case
A heat treatment applied to the titanium creates a unique crystallized pattern effect. The combination of deep-hardening treatment and brown AIP®* offers enhanced resistance to abrasion.

Clad Guard Structure
Integration of the crown/buttons and guard parts offers improved shock resistance. αGEL®* inserted into the crown helps to absorb shocks.

Masao Kobayashi
Third-generation metal craftsman working in Shiga Prefecture’s city of Otsu. Active as a metalsmith using the chasing technique as well, with experience studying carving in Kyoto. Works with a wide range of decorative metal crafts, including crafting shrine and temple fixtures, restoring historic cultural assets, crafting tea ceremony implements and engaging in artistic craftwork. One of Japan’s premier artisanal metalworkers.
Masanao Kikuchi
15th-generation craftsman for Kikuchi Hojudo, founded in 1604 as a dedicated iron caster for the lord of Yamagata Castle. Received instruction from his uncle, a Living National Treasure, from a young age and apprenticed under his father, the 14th-generation Masanao Kikuchi. His works, creatively innovative even as they preserve traditional techniques, are highly esteemed throughout Japan and the world.
MRG-B2000SH is equipped with Bluetooth® and radio-controlled functions for accurate timekeeping, pairs with a smartphone for quick and easily accessible watch functions. Lastly, it is solar-powered that keeps your watch ticking.
